Thomas E. Jackiewicz
Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer for USC Health
Thomas E. (Tom) Jackiewicz was appointed senior vice president and chief executive officer for USC health effective Jan. 1, 2012. Reporting directly to the president, Jackiewicz is responsible for oversight of the university’s clinical activities, including Keck Hospital of USC, USC Norris Cancer Hospital and the 500-physician practice group known as USC Care Medical Group, Inc. Collectively, these entities comprise the Keck Medical Center of USC.
Before joining USC, Jackiewicz was chief executive officer of UC San Diego Health System (encompassing UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest, UC San Diego Thornton Hospital, UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, UC San Diego Shiley Eye Center, and UC San Diego Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center) and associate vice chancellor of University of California, San Diego Health Sciences.
Previously, he served as chief financial officer of Columbia University Medical Center and as senior associate chair for finance and administration for the department of medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. Earlier in his career, he served as director of fiscal operations for the clinical practices of the University of Pennsylvania, director of business and financial operations in the Department of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, senior associate chair for finance and administration in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine, and chief operating officer at Columbia University Medical Center.
Jackiewicz is actively involved in many professional organizations, including the Healthcare Financial Management Association, and served as national chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Group on Business Affairs. He is an adviser to the University HealthSystem Consortium, the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems, and the Hospital Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties. He also was elected chair of the Founder’s Board for the Dr. Foster 2011 Global Comparators Project — a board composed of CEOs and leadership from 31 top-ranked hospitals in five countries.
Jackiewicz earned his master of public health in health policy and management from Columbia University and his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Georgia.
