Vice President, Athletic Compliance
Michael Blanton was appointed vice president for athletic compliance on January 1, 2017, and is responsible for administering and managing all aspects of USC’s athletic compliance program. Mr. Blanton and his team in the Office of Athletic Compliance work closely with the director of athletics and his staff to ensure the university’s compliance program with NCAA, PAC12 and university rules and regulations.
Prior to joining USC, Mr. Blanton was an attorney and partner at the law firm of Hill, Farrer & Burrill LLP in Los Angeles. Prior to that, Mr. Blanton was a named partner of his own law firm after beginning his career as a litigation associate at Lord, Bissell & Brook. Mr. Blanton has nearly 20 years of experience in civil and business litigation, including having done extensive work in many areas on behalf of USC. Mr. Blanton previously served as a temporary judge for both Los Angeles County and Ventura County Superior Courts. Mr. Blanton earned his bachelor’s degree from California State University, Long Beach in 1993, and his J.D. from the USC Gould School of Law in 1997.
